axolotl (Mexican walking fish)

The axolotl (Mexican walking fish) displays neoteny, or the ability to undergo sexual maturity at the larval stage. In warmer climates the larvae will metamorphose into adult salamanders and reproduce, but in colder climates they retain their immature form.
