NEW PLANT TYPES & VARIETIES

I’m always on the hunt for New Artificial Plant Types and materials.

I’m also very particular of the products quality and realistic appeal. I also have to consider how might it be used within a reptile, aquarium or home environment. More often than not, I have to choose to reject many artificial plant stems because they’re “just not right” for my designs. Fake doesn’t have to look cheap.

But sometimes, I am fortunate to find some really nice new plant varieties! From now on, when ever I introduce a new plant variety into the design collection, you’ll see the ‘New Plant Type‘ announcement featured on the new designs product image. This will apply to any new varieties that have been created for the very first time.

The New Plant Varieties will start to become available, beginning in November 2021. Some of the new varieties will also allow me to design plants that are 12 – 16 inches tall, perfect for a slightly larger reptile terrarium. Finding realistic looking taller artificial plants isn’t always easy.

Rose of Jericho | The Resurrection Plant

A time lapse of a Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla) also known as the Resurrection Plant. After being exposed to water, the plant turns from a dried tumbleweed to a green fern over the course of several hours.

Rose of Jericho, also called resurrection plant, two species of unrelated plants known for their ability to survive desiccation. The true rose of Jericho (Anastatica hierochuntica) is native to western Asia and is the only species of the genus Anastatica of the mustard family (Brassicaceae). The small gray plant curls its branches and seedpods inward in the dry season, forming a ball. A ball that opens only when moistened. It can survive for years in that form, though it is sometimes uprooted and blown by the wind like a tumbleweed. If still rooted when moistened, it spreads into a green plant as much as 30 cm (1 foot) wide and bears minute white flowers.

Caution: Never use soap’s or detergent’s to clean you artificial plants. What they leave behind, can be toxic to your pets.
Instructions: Fill a bowl or bucket (depending on its size) with luke warm water. Grab the base of the plant design and turn it upside down. Slowly dip the plant design in the water a few times then sit it upright to dry. Place in the habitat enclosure and cover the plant base with your substrate.
Aquarium Decor Tip: Make the view angle pleasant and natural by putting taller plants towards the back and shorter plants up front.
